The first step is having a specific savings goal in mind. For example, rather than resolving to “saving more”, you could have a more specific goal such as “save & invest $10 every week” so you are able to track your progress and stay motivated at each milestone.
Calculations on how much money you could save by either making your coffee at home or skipping it altogether are well-worn clichés in finance world rhetoric. Contrary to this: life is hard and small joys are often what get us through the day. When we talk about investing from a financial perspective, we’re more concerned with investing money, with the expectation of generating an income or profit with a long-term benefit for you financially.
Surprises are a part of life.
